Unless we act effectively, we face the gravest threats in human history. The impacts are already being felt around the globe. There’s no excuse for delay, all the technologies are ready, waiting and getting cheaper by the day. Please help us in calling on the government to produce a UK-wide Emergency Climate Action plan as this will allow us to pull together, mobilise collectively and provide the framework through which we can make the radical transformations for a just transition. Fear is paralysing – hope is energising Across the world, awareness of climate change is rising. But, as important as it is to know about the dangers we face, it’s crucial that we understand that this is a solvable issue.   Visualising a future where we have risen to the demands of climate change can help us reduce fear and misunderstandings and have positive, solutions-focused conversations. Evidence-based solutions The Centre for Alternative Technology’s Zero Carbon Britain project was launched in 2007. Since then I’ve been working with experts in a broad array of fields to show what is possible. Our new report, Rising to the Climate Emergency, is due out later this year. It models a future where we have achieved net-zero greenhouse gas emissions using existing technology; a future where we have played our part in leaving a safe and habitable climate for future generations. Our research also shows that these solutions will create many additional benefits. Acting now and making the changes needed will create many new jobs, while cleaner air, changes to diets, warmer homes and increased cycling and walking will help us to live healthier lives. Rising to the Climate Emergency To support communities, local authorities and policy makers to create emergency climate action plans we will be soon be launching the Zero Carbon Britain Hub and Innovation Lab. But a UK-wide Climate Emergency Action Plan is crucial to enabling and supporting councils, communities and industry to make the radical changes needed. We can respond to the climate emergency. Please share widely so we can work together to create a better future. Thank you, Paul Allen
