Voting age to be lowered to 16

Above are only some examples of territories in which the lowest voting age is 16. Scotland gave 16 and 17 year old's the ability to vote in the Scottish independence referendum, and 16 year old's are able to vote in Scottish local government elections and Scottish Parliament elections. Now, tell me, what is the difference between the Scots (apart from the tartan kilts) and everyone else in the U.K that means the voting age is higher?

However, comparing ourselves to other nations doesn't tell you why we believe the voting age should be lowered. To begin, we are a group of four students with a genuine interest in politics and with this comes a strong desire to be able to participate in elections. None of us will be appearing on '16 and pregnant' anytime soon but imagine the scenario: being able to conceive but having no say in your child's future. After all, education and healthcare only came about once citizens could vote. We know we are a small chunk of the electorate, and you may think that 16/17 year old's don't know enough/don't care about politics but we proved that they do and if we want something to be done about it we should be the ones to do something about it.
