At the time of writing, 01/11/2018, the recorded number of suicides within the Veteran Community for this year is 51. Sadly this number will rise. We all know that Mental Health Services within the NHS are unable to cope with the current demand of the General population and that Veterans are having to turn to underfunded Charitable organisations for Counselling, Treatment and Support. We ask that the Ministry of Defence and the UK Government take ownership of the issue of PTSD and other related Mental Health Issues attributable to Uniformed Service and move quickly to reduce these numbers through the funding and provision of appropriate support.. We further ask that, going forward, an agreed percentage of the annual defence budget is ring-fenced and committed to the treatment of the Mental and Physical Health Issues suffered by our Service Men and Women.
I would like this to have reached the needed target by Sunday 11/11/19 as a small gesture and, hopefully, fitting tribute to those who have suffered, continue to suffer and will suffer.
