UK Government- Stop School Funding Cuts
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!
Under the proposals announced, more than 9,000 schools in England will lose funding. The Government argues 11,000 will have increased funding.
The Institute for Fiscal Studies shows that school spending per pupil is likely to fall by around 8% in real terms by 2019-20, the first drop since the mid-1990s. The National Audit Office report sets out that mainstream schools are expected to find £3bn in savings by 2019-20, echoing a recent Guardian survey in which 69% of school leaders stated that they believe their deficits will be untenable by 2020. “Headteachers will be forced to make difficult decisions, including increasing class sizes, reducing curriculum choice and cutting down on extra support for all pupils. These changes are likely to have a dramatic impact on school standards.”
In my local area of Wokingham Scools are set to cut over £6.5million, further dropping the £ per pupil, which is already one of the lowest in the UK. Cheshire East are proposing a four day school week.
The net result of the funding changes and cuts will damage our educational system, affecting our children and grand children's education and thus their prospects. Check out the website schoolcuts.org.uk for great info, another petition and a link to email your MP.
The Government is now in a 14 month consultation period, help them understand the impact they will have. Use your voice to show Theresa May and Justine Greening how many people are fearing the impact this will have on schools, teachers and most importantly children.
