UK government need to stop referring to Black/Asian communities as ethnic minorities .
Why this petition matters
The U.K. government has used the derogatory label 'ethnic minorities' for the black and Asian communities for many years now. Referring to us as BAME (Black, Asian and minority ethnic) has many negative connotations (poor, dirty, inadequate, inferior etc.); it is disrespectful, unacceptable and needs to STOP NOW. It is also disappointing to hear people of influence from those communities using the term on a regular basis. They should NOT be using this derogatory term either. We should not allow labels such as this to be placed on us. This has been the case dating back to slavery.
It's time for us to take a stand against this nonsense. It's time for us to speak up against the inequalities we continually face. We should be referred to as the 'Black and Asian community' only! This is MUCH more positive and respectable. If we say or do nothing, change will NEVER happen; the cycle of injustice and oppression will continue for future generations. If you agree, please sign this petition and forward to as many people as you can. Please also write to your local MP to get this changed as soon as possible. It's time to make a difference, let's make this happen. Thank you in advance for your support!
