Alun Downing started this petition to UK Parliament and

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme is a temporary scheme open to all UK employers for at least 3 months starting from 1 March 2020. It is designed to support employers whose operations have been severely affected by coronavirus (COVID-19).

Employers can claim for 80% of furloughed employees’ (employees on a leave of absence) usual monthly wage costs, up to £2,500 a month, plus the associated Employer National Insurance contributions and minimum automatic enrolment employer pension contributions on that wage. Employers can use this scheme anytime during this period.

The scheme is open to all UK employers that had created and started a PAYE payroll scheme on 28 February 2020.

As one effected by this above, I missed out on the 80% of wages as a furloughed employee plus being made redundant only by 2 days. My official start date of the new job was the 1st of March but did start at the start of the third week of February but due to HR recommendation the start date was pushed back to the start of the next month.

Due to this, my partner and I are relying on her job continuing at 100% income until this period of uncertainty passes. We will struggle to pay our rent, bills and basic food to get through this period.

Surely the government can allow for some slight flexibility on the date on the PAYE payroll scheme by an extra week to allow for more people in the England can have both financial and job security once this COIV19 periods passes.
