Karen Baker started this petition to UK Parliament

Now is the time for change.

The government asked and the NHS workers stepped up and went above and beyond anything which should have been asked of them with inadequate PPE, many becoming extremely unwell, even giving their lives!

Now we’re asking the UK Governmentto step up and thank them with investment, not hand clapping.

Our NHS staff should not have to pay to become qualified- they should have an indenture.
There should be scales of study for nurses, a 2 year diploma or a degree.
Priority should go to UK people wanting to study, with Brexit it will be harder to recruit abroad and should anything like this happen again we will have our own work force.
Trainee nurses should be paid for their work.
The NHS staff should be paid salaries, and have working conditions that make our health care professional roles attractive to school leavers and graduates.
An innovative long term solution is needed, similar to when the NHS was first conceived.
There needs to be a long term investment plan to build up capacity, particularly staffing, but also enough to keep up with developments in technology, have modern facilities, and keep up with demand.
To manage demand, we need to have a massive investment in public health and prevention, with health education from schools to the broader population.
The NHS needs to have a wholistic approach, encompass Lifestyle medicine, and include mental health.
The NHS needs to embrace the new ways of working which have been used during the lock down and improve on them to work most efficiently going forward.
There needs to be huge investment in nursing homes/care homes, so patients can rehabilitate out of hospitals.
Policy needs to be driven by expert advice, not political point scoring.

You asked and we stayed home to protect our fragile, under funded, ill prepared NHS, NOW its time for you to listen to us and do as we ask.
