The next Chair of the GDC should be a dental professional

Dr William (Bill) Moyes was appointed Chair of the General Dental Council in September 2013 and is due to remain in this position until 30th September 2021 when he has confirmed he will stand down, after his second full four year term.

A career civil servant, Bill Moyes has overseen the disastrous disenfranchisement of the dental profession from its regulator. From his 2014 Malcolm Pendlebury lecture where he vocalised his vision for the expansion of the GDC remit, through the damning 2015 Professional Standards Authority (PSA) verdict on the GDC performance and Lord Hunt's 2016 statement that the entire GDC board should resign, Bill Moyes has shown a hubristic failure to understand the dental profession.

It is absolutely vital that the next GDC chair is a dental professional. Please ensure you sign this petition so that the British Association of Private Dentistry (BAPD) can deliver your damning verdict on the performance of the last GDC Chair, and our absolute determination that the next Chair will be one of us.

Our profession should regulate itself. As professionals, one of our colleagues should chair our regulatory body.

Please use your signature to help make this change happen.

Thank you.
