Student nurses are the forgotten workforce in the NHS. Our bursaries were taken and we were made to pay £27,000 in tuition fees to work UNPAID for the NHS, all so we can follow our dreams of becoming future nurses.

Face to face lectures have all been cancelled however, we still have to go to placement full time into hospitals, care homes and the community settings the places where we are at risk of being exposed to the COVID-19 virus. We are told to avoid social gatherings but most wards have 30 plus patients at one time, along with staff members ranging from occupational therapy team, doctors, pharmacists, physiotherapist, dieticians and nurses. Then to add to the mix of people visitors, coming from far and wide.

I have a family at home that I need to protect, I have a child at home who is classed as vulnerable due to Underlying health issues but I still have to go into a setting that poses a risk to my health and in time hers. Please sign to allow student nurses to opportunity to withdraw from placements during this pandemic. There needs to be an alternative for students who genuinely need to stay away to protect their own health and the health of those around them.
