***UPDATE*** The new date in January was cancelled 3 DAYS before the witnesses were due to give evidence. The new court date is in May so the defence have been able to cancel SERVERAL times.***I waited 9 months to give evidence in court against my ex partner who assaulted me. It took several months for him to be charged for assaulting me in June 2016 and December 2016. Four days before i was to attend trial in September 2017, i was told the date will be postponed until January 2018. This will be 13 months since I suffered the last assault.
I recieved a response from David Lidington MP who is Secretary of State for Justice who stated that my perpetrator's defence had not been given enough time to recieve evidence by CPS. This means his solicitors had no evidence to defend him so asked for more time.
I urge the government to block the cancellation of court cases for those victims who are vulnerable, like myself. My perpetrator breached his bail conditions in August 2017 in this lengthy time which was extremely distressing. The delay in trial has also left me on anti depressants and PTSD and all this could have been spared if the government understands how vulnerable women are when they are the victim of male violence. There is a high number of domestic abuse cases reported with such a low prosecution rate. I want this to stop now.
