Stacey Gray started this petition to UK Parliament and
Each year our schools are closed to be used as polling stations during local elections, general elections and referendums, causing disruption to education and cost to parents. Given that the government has placed such high importance on school attendance (issuing fines to parents for a day missed) it is hypocritical closing schools to save money during elections!Particularly when the cost falls to parents to find childcare/use annual leave for these days!
Schools cannot remain open with the general public on the premises so alternatives should be found

Hold elections in a church hall/library/community centre, basically anywhere but a place of education. Hold it in your own civic offices but STOP closing our schools and disrupting our children's education for your elections!

Each year my childs school has had to close for elections. Local, central and European, meaning they have to have a day off of school and I have to pay for childcare, ask a family member (which not everyone is able to do) or take a day off of work. It is unfair, it is always a Thursday, and getting my child back to school the following day can be a battle!
