stop the harassment of Ambulance personnel for blocking roads or drives

During the weekend of the 11th/12th of November a West Midlands Ambulance (WMAS) was out on a 999 call out to a patient. Upon returning to the truck the crew found a rather rude note on the windscreen of the truck and I quote “ YOU MAY BE SAVING LIVES, BUT DON’T PARK YOUR VAN IN A STUPID PLACE AND BLOCK MY DRIVE”. Additionally Ami Garner videoed an incident on Sunday the 12th of November down her street an Ambulance crew from North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) was called out to one of her neighborrs. Due to it being a narrow street and cars parked down the street the crew had no choice but to park in the middle of the road which caused the road to be blocked. The crew whilst treating the patient was Met with abuse from a road user whom couldn’t get down the street whom verbally abused the staff. The incident was filmed by Ami whom has shared it on Facebook . This sort of behaviour must be stopped. The police are protected and have powers to charge people if they get abuse like this. As a former Community  First responder and as a Events Responder I wish to prompt the government to discuss and bring in laws to protect Ambulance Staff from doing their duty in the forms of tougher sentencing for anyone that abuses ambulance staff from verbally abusing like Ami’s crew had, WMAS staff having a note left on their truck by a disgruntled civilian it could be veiwed as he’s obstructed the view of the drives windscreen with that note/defacing a trust truck. We also hear of ambulance staff being asualted by bystanders and patients. There is a law that charges for general obstruction of emergency services however only the police have a seperate charge if they are asualted or abused. Let’s make it a criminal offence which a tougher sentence for any assault or abuse towards Ambulance staff. I would also like the government to consider educating people the in the forms of a tv advert or posters getting civilians to think before they speak to ambulance staff or abuse them as that could be one of their loved ones they are called out to and they have no choice but to block a drive or park in the middle of the road.
