The killing of Biafrans especially young men in South Eastern Nigeria is alarming. 3 million Biafrans including children were killed by Nigerian military in the civil war that took place between 1967-1970. Though the civil war ended in 1970, the killing has continued. In the last few months, Nigeria government sent their troops to South East Nigeria where the security arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra have been having clashes with Fulani herdsmen from Northern Nigeria. This has led to non-stop killing in the south east by the Nigerian military. On 20th May 2021, Nigeria's Acting Inspector General of Police visited the region and charged Police officers to shoot at sight. In his statement he said "kill them and if anyone accuse you of Human rights violation, it will come to my desk and you know what I will to the report". On 1st June 2021, President Buhari threatened the region with a civil war in a tweet which said "Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian civil war. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war will treat them in the language they understand". This tweet was later deleted by Tweeter. On 4th June 2021 the Buhari government banned Tweeter in Nigeria. The killing of Biafrans and abuse of Human rights in South East Nigeria by the Buhari led government must therefore stop.
