In the past year an individual called Kiera Bell took the NHS to court for allowing her to transition at the age of 16, but later detransitioned. Bell's experiences are not universal. Making it harder for trans kids to access puberty blockers will force them to undergo a puberty they do not want or deserve, and makes them a stranger in their own body. The mental health of trans individuals is at risk if they continue to experience the intense dysphoria that the incorrect puberty would bring about, especially at an age where they don't even understand the politics adults force onto their bodies. Puberty blockers are non-permanent, and if, much like in Bell's own case, can be reversed naturally if found that it is not in the child's best interest. This law is being passed under the pretense that it causes permanent harm, which is a falsehood and maliciously misleading. It will not protect kids, it will only bring greater harm to an already disenfranchised and vulnerable group.
