The place for these historical anachronisms is in a museum where their context can be explained and explored. On plinths, in parks, on the street, they glorify and commemorate people who became wealthy through the enslavement and murder of other human beings. This is not appropriate in the 21 Century.

Having statues of slave traders in prominent positions in our cities is an insult to black people. Take them down.

Melt them down. I don't need an ancient statue of Edward Colston et al to teach me that slavery is inhumane.

These statues of people who traded in the misery and death of human souls should never have been put up - should have come down long ago.
