Matt Hammond started this petition to UK Parliament and

A large number of workers in our NHS/Armed Forces/Emergency Services (keyworkers) currently receive a lower wage per year than many sportsmen/sportswomen who earn their higher wage from playing sport. Surely any right minded person cannot defend this situation or provide a good reason for why the situation should be the way it currently is. The two types of jobs are a million miles apart in importance and only one group (the keyworkers) help us be healthy, safe, and free from foreign invasion or a homegrown Dictatorship.

Many people are showing their support for the above keyworkers during the Coronavirus crisis, but why are we only doing this during a time of crisis? The keyworkers should be receiving equal (or better) pay compared to sportsmen/sportswomen full stop!

There is lots of talk about showing our appreciation and respect for the NHS etc at the minute, but by achieving the aim of this petition, there would be proper measures taken to show that appreciation and respect on a constant, long term, and full time basis.

The solution is two fold and very simple! Firstly, lots of our keyworkers should be being paid more annually than they currently are. Secondly, there should be a cap on what people can earn from playing sport for a living. However, the government/FA/Premier League etc are only ever going to take action on this situation if they are forced to by the pressure from millions of people in this country.

And millions of signatures is what this petition needs. Not hundreds of thousands. That has happened before with petitions similar to this and it gets nowhere. So please help by signing and then encouraging all your friends and family to do the same. I will be doing this and also trying to get support from high profile journalists, TV presenters etc who I have seen over the last few weeks writing/talking about how they agree with the point this petition focuses on. Actions speak louder than words so let's see how many of us take action. Thanks.
