Regulate non medic aesthetic practitioners

Regulate non medic aesthetic practitioners
Within the United Kingdom there is no regulation on who can provide injectable aesthetic treatments and training.
This is a major cause of concern as like any treatment, complications can arise. However, the complications known to aesthetics are rare but are high risk and can cause ; tissue death, blindness and stroke (amongst others.)
As you may know the aesthetic industry is run by Medical and Non-medical professionals. All Medics who are regulated (ie, NMC, GDC etc), are DBS screened for criminal convictions, follow guidance, policies and procedures and have ethical values that they attain throughout their professional career (Nurse, Doctor etc) and implement this within their aesthetic practice.
So, we are calling for a Regulatory Body to be developed specifically for Non-Medical injectors, that should have the same values and Codes of Conduct that Medical injectors should follow.
Proof of continuing development should be implemented for Non-medics to show high standards of clinical practice and patient safety and the ability to be struck off like Medics and therefore not be able to attain insurance in the future.
Regulating the Industry will mean security for practitioners and safety for patients and will silence the debate between medics and non medics.
