Public space to be reallocated for growth of food for all

Public space to be reallocated for growth of food for all
Why this petition matters

Growing food locally means localised independence. This prevents mass movement, improves respect for land and community, brings communities together and ensures that every community can fulfil its basic needs.
In a time of division, it is important that people can meet their own needs, as a community. We cannot solve mass homelessness and hunger (migration) without solving it first on a local level, and then expanding upon that to the national level.
We are demanding that public spaces like open pieces of grass, roundabouts, sidewalks, lay-bys and other places where we could easily grow some food, to be reallocated to the use of growing food for all.
This would be true public land. For use by the public, and maintained by those who use it. Organic practices would have to be established to have a positive impact on our environment and those who consume the produce.
This food would be owned by no one. It is for all. Based on the teachings of Gandhi, I believe that localised independence would bring us closer together. It would prevent us from being caught up in fights between neighbour states, because we are not relying on the materials they give us and we do not have to pick a side based on such things.
This would mean we can give to the world, instead of taking from it. Ensuring the growth of all organisms within our ecosystem. Feeding and protecting our most vulnerable during times of unemployment and ensuring our survival as a species.
Allotments are not enough. We need to act now!
