I believe employees should have protected rights to paid time off work to care for their sick pet as would be the same as a relative or child is protected.  An animal is after all the legal possession of the owner and the owner can be prosecuted under law if they do not care and protect it.  Employees should not be discriminated against on the basis there are no rights to protected time off work to care for sick pets
