At one time, the watch words of our British culture were decency, morality and fairness. For our Parliamentarians, it additionally included integrity, truth and honesty. Parliament was governed by its own probity.

All these traits maintained the standards underpinning and upholding our society, and governed our very existence.

However, our Parliamentarians governing us now couldn’t be further removed from such traits and standards of behaviour. The truth and acting in a wholly honest way are alien to them. Our MPs act dishonesty and without probity and openly mislead the House of Commons. Yet they still do not do the decent thing and resign. Few have been ousted from their position when found to have transgressed the standards, even those already set down by Parliament. With this outlook as a way of leading their Parliamentary life, our government, and MPs, show total disregard and lack of respect for the standards they should themselves be governed by. A great deal is seriously and fundamentally wrong with our entire system of national governance.

Parliament is broken and no longer fit for purpose. Its rules, procedures and traditions were set up centuries ago, when it was deemed gentlemen would act as gentleman. That view has long passed as an overriding principle. Now those being honest and telling truth are ejected from Parliament, while those lying, being dishonest and misleading the House are allowed to carry on regardless. As if nothing was wrong.

There needs to be a Parliamentary and political system the citizens of the United Kingdom can all trust, have faith in and feel is acting honestly for the benefit of everyone.

Parliament and politics must change to accommodate the modern world in which we all have to exist. The way of doing things has changed markedly in recent decades. 

Please help me bring this about, and initiate a wholesale change to how our Parliament and how its elected members behave, by signing this petition. We need fresh standards established for both Parliamentary and public political life. Standards where decency, morality, fairness, integrity, truth and honesty override everything our representatives undertake on our behalf.
