Jon Smithson started this petition to UK Parliament

The House of Commons and Lords are located in a 150 year old building in London. Both chambers are set up to be adversarial. It is not fit for its role as the seat of government in the 21st century. Its home in London underlines the UK's status as one of the most centralised countries in the world. Brexit was partly a function of the disconnect between politicians and the realities of life in modern Britain for millions of people.

Convert the Houses of Parliament to a museum, possibly a hotel also. Move parliament to somewhere that would benefit from the huge boost to its economy, say South Yorkshire, to a fit for purpose building/complex with semi-circular debating chambers. This would be transformational for this country moving its centre of gravity away from London and re-energising our political system. It would probably improve the standing of politics in the UK.

I started this petition because

I have a lifelong interest in politics. Watching recent debates I am struck by how dated the whole political system is in the country.
