It has been suggested that the national anthem be played at the end of the day on UK television but however you look at it the current version of "God Save The Queen" is a bit of a dirge.

Fortunately a solution exists.

There is a version of "God Save The Queen" which is actually a rather pleasant little ditty. It also holds the advantages of being well recognised and popular and also far more in tune with modern feeling on the nation.

I therefore propose that the Sex Pistols version of "God Save The Queen" should become the official national anthem.

It could also help the health of the nation by making it compulsory to accompany the singing of the anthem with the dance moves - turning patriotism into a good aerobic workout!

This idea has already been trialled by the BBC and was very well received so there is every reason to believe it would be a popular measure.
