Put a lid on it is a new campaign to change the standard of protection in nightclubs against drink spiking within the UK. The campaign's aim is to make people feel safer and more confident within the clubs they are attending by enforcing that all nightclubs should offer a suitable drink cover if the customer would like one. Ultimately this should also lead to a reduction to the number of drink spiking’s that occur. The relevance of this campaign is highlighted by an article released by Marieclaire.com back in October 2021 where they reported an 809% increase in the search of drink spiking’s online.

Drink spiking has recently reached “epidemic” levels within the UK campaigners have told MP’s meaning it is ‘a wide-ranging spread of a disease which is not permanently prevalent.’ This highlights that drink spiking has reached the commonness that it could happen to anyone anywhere emphasising the importance of this campaign.

In the past 10 years reports of drinking spiking have trebled. Data released by 23 different police forces under the freedom of information laws brung to light that there were 1466 reports of spiking incidents last year an increase from the year before where the number was 722.

Since Drink spiking has reached epidemic levels within the UK this campaign will be based within the UK to try and tackle the whole problem rather than take on part of the problem as the impact, we have whether big or small we would like it to benefit as many people as possible.

The group of people spiking can be seen affecting the most recently is students whether this is because of their party culture, or they are seen as easier targets is unknown however it has become a normality for students to be spiked. A survey which was released in December 2021 by The Tab shows that 50% of students surveyed had said that a friend or someone they know had been spiked.
