As someone who has had religion and prayer forced upon me from a young age, in public schools, and has later become an atheist due to personal experiences, I think it’s unfair to force religion upon students. Yes, I do understand Religious Education lessons, and believe it’s important to understand different beliefs and cultures, but for example forcing students to pray in assemblies disregards the beliefs of students who don’t have a religion or are part of other religions than Christianity, who may worship in a different way.

I’ve experienced forced religion multiple times, and as i’ve grown up i’ve realised that it’s unfair to push a certain religion on kids from young ages, when they are most impressionable. The worst example i’ve seen is in middle school, during an assembly, the headteacher forced a large group of muslim students to pray, when they were clearly uncomfortable with it, which is just completely disrespectful to their beliefs.

I believe that forcing prayer upon students from a young age is wrong, and shouldn’t happen in schools, because it disregards so many faiths in the process.
