It is very clear by now that GCSES are difficult for those who struggle academically, the problem is that many people have weak spots within their education. For example, the usual stereotype is that some people perform very well in English, whilst struggling to comprehend Mathematics. 

I believe that just because someone may struggle at one subject, it doesnt mean it has to ruin their future plans. I understand that the English Language and Mathematics GCSE is required by many employers and colleges to eventually complete. This shouldnt be brought upon us, there are many who are held back by a system that rewards only certain types of people and attributes. Why should someone who is outstanding at art or music be held back by something like Mathematics?

Im not making this to get rid of GCSEs, I understand that they are very important and they can highlight a person's work ethic and talents. I am making this to lower the grade boundaries for GCSEs, now this would apply more to lower boundaries, grade 7 would move down slightly in mark requirements but grade 8 and 9 should be left to their respectable places. Especially for the likes of Mathematics and English, it should be easier to attain a grade 4.

Many people give it their all on the tests, but at the end of the day, in the actual exam if they fall short of a grade 4 then they will have that burden on their shoulder for the next year or so in further education until they can hopefully attain it. This creates a vicious cycle for many who struggle to attain the grade 4, many people have talents that are overlooked or work ethic that is overshadowed due to the fact they cant perfectly recite the formula of a Quadratic Equation. This simply cannot be allowed in our society, especially in areas that suffer from unemployment, this would simply be creating more of a problem.

Finally, I want the government to realise that it is way too hard for many people to achieve the needed grade 4 in many subjects. I want them to lower the grade boundaries of the grade 4 so that effort could equal a passing result. But I cant do this alone, I need people to sign this petition and get the government to notice. In bringing down grade 4 requirements, people who put in hard work but struggle on the day of the exams will no longer be left with a burden on their shoulder and be cast aside, weighing down their own motivations and dreams.

This petition is for all the students, no matter what education they are in at the moment, to finally highlight this problem and help solve it. Thank you all for reading.
