Rory Pilbeam started this petition to UK Parliament and

People all over the world are separated by borders more than ever. Myself and my serious partner Ana are included. We have been together for 14 months now and I see no end to our love. However, she lives in Mexico and I live in Scotland; two countries where the coronavirus outbreak has been seriously deadly and mismanaged. Currently, people are allowed to go out and get drunk and repeatedly break social distancing rules and cases rise and this is allowed by leeway the governments have offered. Meanwhile, I bought an airplane ticket for the next day to go see my love, and the very next day my government decided to advise against all but essential travel internationally. As a couple pre-marriage, we did not fit into that criteria. The government maintains the same no non-essential travel policy for its' citizens. However, both governments are allowing foreign nationals to enter (with quarantine for arrivals to the UK). This malalignment isn't terribly useful for us reuniting. I have a job offer in Mexico which is dependent upon travel restrictions being lifted but I am not asking for these rules to be changed. I am asking to allow myself or my partner and every international long-distance couple that involves citizens of either nation and others globally to be able to see each other on the basis that they self-fund a negative COVID test and quarantine for two weeks upon arrival. This is would be at no cost to the government and minimal risk, less risk than the socialization within-country that is putting lives at risk. I do not underestimate the threat of this pandemic and I have a family-member who is in an at risk-group, I understand that but government policies have been based around balancing economic and health outcomes for their populations (including mental health) by not allowing couples to reunite that is a disservice. We are not here to ask for tourism, we are here to ask that you allow love to cross borders and follow suit of the 7 European Nations who have already allowed such couples to find their way back to one another because #loveisnottourism. If love resonates with you, please sign this petition. Stay safe, love the ones you are with and don't forget those further away and close to the heart. Let suffering stop, let love reunite...
