Moss Huetson started this petition to UK Parliament

Ok, so British schools want us all to look smart, presentable and they want us to represent their school. Which, I completely understand. But how on earth does unnaturally dyed hair effect that? It makes no sense whatsoever. They say it’s ‘distracting’ to other students. That also makes no sense. It’s a colour, nothing else.

Schools tell us to ‘express yourselves’ and ‘be who you want to be’ but they don’t actually let us. Personally, dying my hair and having multiple piercings on my ears and face is me expressing myself and being myself, yet they don’t let me do any of that. I’m 100% sure many other students agree. It can also be destroying to our mental health since it makes us feel ourselves and if we don’t do that we will dislike ourselves and be unhappy. They want us to be quiet and respect the teachers etc, but how can they expect that when they expect us to obey so many stupid, meaningless rules that stop us from being and loving ourselves.

There’s nothing wrong with dyed hair, nothing other than dying your hair can damage it. That’s it! There’s no reason we should not be able to dye our hair unnatural colours. It’s absolutely disgusting how schools expect us to follow that rule as if it’s ok.

Please, just take two minutes out of your day to sign this and maybe we can be ourselves and happy. These rules mean nothing to us and we’re tired of being told to change our hair to boring natural colours and we are NOT waiting till our school years are over because that is just stupid. Let us be ourselves! It doesn’t effect our learning!
