Christopher Cameron started this petition to UK Parliament

At a time when the populace of the UK is as politically and socioeconomically divided as it has been in living memory, It's time that measures were taken to ensure our elected representatives are held to account.

The flagrant lies spoken by our elected representatives aren't even 'cleverly' disguised behind spin and statistical manipulation anymore, instead it's absolutely blatant. This is simply not acceptable and there should be consequences for lying to the electorate. (They could be financial or even result in the loss of an MP's seat, in the most serious cases - for example.)

Nothing highlights this particular issue more than the fact our current Prime Minister Boris Johnson can stand outside 10 Downing Street and proceed to give an election campaign Launch speech, which is absolutely littered with outright lies & mistruths. Not only about his own policies but also in regards to the opposition and theirs.

> An example of one of these lies and mistruths is the much repeated '40 New Hospitals' claim. Which is not 40 but just 6, with additional funding for a further 34 to 'start developing future projects'. This has been widely picked apart - so the constant repetition of it is unacceptable and is a deliberate attempt at misleading the electorate.

Our democratically elected representatives are in a position of great influence and power and as such should be held to the highest standards. There is no scenario where it's acceptable for them to lie to us to gain votes or unfairly smear or discredit their opposition.

This petition is not concerned with political bias, or whichever party you follow; it is purely about wanting our elected representatives to be held accountable for lying. Hopefully changing the tone of politics in the future, which would be beneficial to the whole electorate.
