Many transgender students in the UK feel that gendered school uniform invalidates their identities and emanates transphobia in schools due to being forced to wear a skirt or trousers etc, they feel that it makes it seem that it is okay to misgender and force labels onto a person.

This is especially damaging for those who don't have a safe environment to come out in because of the harmful embarrassment and stereotypes that wearing a uniform can force them to hide behind.

This is why we desperately want to encourage the production of gender neutral uniforms, or at least the introduction of the policy of being able to have a choice in what uniform they wear.

Gender neutral uniforms also come with the benefit of a safer environment for those unable to express their identity publicly, the improvement of transgender student's mental health due to more inclusive and less assumative circumstances, as well as a decrease in cost due to less uniform items having to be purchased, making it more accessible to all gender identities transitioning or not no matter their financial status.
