Kevin Sacchi started this petition to UK Parliament and

By 2050 the Oceans will be filled with more plastic than water if we don't act now. The world biological habitat is changing considerably due to climate change and the U.K government is doing nothing to fight it. Since 2015 (with the 2015/720 Act.) Europe has introduced the compulsory use of biodegradable plastic bags and implemented their use all over the block. From last year the use of biodegradable bags was also introduced for the fruit and vegetable section of EU supermarkets. For those countries who don't adhere to introduce these changes the European Commission has introduced sanctions to punish their inconsiderate behaviour.
The U.K has not introduced these biodegradable bags, instead it increased the price of normal plastic bags which are still polluting our oceans and joepardising our children's future and the future of our planet.
We are asking for these measures to be implemented with a matter of urgency and for the parliament to take immediate action to address this serious issue.

Biodegradable bags are made of flour, cornstarch etc. They are 100% biodegradable and do not pollute the environment. These bags are used in Europe and have been made compulsory by the European Parliament with the introduction of the 2015/720 act.
The bags are also produced with a fraction of the cost of the normal plastic bags and mostly by using biological waste.
The use of biodegradable bags should be approved by the U.K parliament in line with other European countries and become law as soon as possible.

My name is Kevin Sacchi, I am an Italian/English Medical doctor and a Dental Student at the University of Sheffield. Travelling often between Italy, England and several European countries I have noticed that the U.K. does not use biodegradable bags but instead uses polluting bags not in line with the rest of the EU countries. Speaking with other colleagues and friends we were shocked to learn that the only step taken by the parliament to fight pollution caused by plastic bags and packaging was to raise the cost of a plastic bag bought at the supermarket to 10 pence. Top scientists are concerned for the future of our planet and the ecosystem metamorphosis is facing a non return point. The introduction of these bags will be a small step that the British parliament will need to take to help combat climate change.
