Across the U.K who previously received free school meals due to food-poverty are currently being sent food parcels. At present, food supplied to parents is astronomically undersupplied, taking into account the £30 which they are ought to be worth. Parents must receive more food to feed their children to maintain on top of schoolwork without the disheartening distractions of hunger. The lack of food supplied to these families is negatively affecting energy levels, passion for schoolwork and concentration. Students are already experiencing increased stress levels due to cancelled GCSEs for year 11s, and completing schoolwork to a sufficient level for younger years without worrying that they will not have another meal. Almost 1/5 of U.K homes went hungry during previous lockdowns, which further proves that the government are not taking enough action to fix food poverty. 31% of children entitled to free school meals are not receiving a substitute, leaving nearly 500,000 children without the food they deserve. However this tragic figure does not mean we cannot help them. As alarming and distressing this truth is, it is far from too late to help these underfed families by signing this petition.
