Increase Punishment If Drug Driving Cause killing Someone
Why this petition matters
To The UK Parliament,
Recently, I have seen a judgement in reading crown court where hit-and-run driver, 21, who 'inhaled laughing gas' at wheel before killing father-of-two while he was on bail for another crash is jailed for three years only.
It made me so worry that these laws are outdated and it needs to be discussed, mother of two lost her husband and these two beautiful kids who were 1.5 years and 3 years old at the time of this incident lost their father.
We can clearly see that guy (Gary Haffenden) was on bail before killing recklessly Mr Syed Shiraz Haider Zaidi while using laughing gas, this kind of crime should not be given only 18 months punishment, if someone is using drugs it should be a murder rather considering it death by dangerous or careless.

Everyone knows that if I take the drug and driving then I should be fully responsible for murder rather than for death by careless or dangerous, in this case, the judge can see he was on bail but still he got punishment for only 3 years including all cases against him the one he crashed someone before and later killed another person, It is simply murder, not a mistake.
I request parliament to update these laws and give punishment to these kinds of irresponsible people at least 10 years punishment including day and night so people can think about before committing this crime.
Right now i have sympathy for the family but it looks like laws are outdated who can take more British lives like this and getting punishment for only a few years, I request parliament to change these laws immediately if the judge finds anyone killed someone and he was using drugs while driving, It should be considered as murder and minimum punishment for this without considering if someone is guilty or not, death by careless or death by dangerous, it should be MINIMUM FOR 10 YEARS.
I hope we can raise this issue really well in the future and save many other important lives. Thank you!
