Based on the fuel price increase of £693 per annum, a lot more people would be thrown in fuel poverty. FT estimates that the number of households who would spend more than 10% of disposable income on fuel is expected to double to 5 mm. I urge the government that the brunt should be borne a lot more by richer people. Another £3-4 bn in taxes would reduce the burden a lot more. Considering top 10% of earners account for almost 1 trillion £ in gdp, this is lot more bearable for them. Please raise the taxes on rich and upper middle class so that poor don’t have to choose between feeding their kids / heating their homes. Longer term we need to build cheaper and more reliable energy sources. As a society, it would be disastrous for millions to bear this price. I implore that we put the burden more on who can afford.
