Get UK Citizens Who Aren't Residents Home Fee Status For University
I am an 18-year-old UK citizen with a UK passport, who has never lived in the UK. Since I have not been living in the UK for at least 3 years, I am not a resident of the UK. I am, therefore, required to pay international student fees to attend university in the UK. University with home fee status, alone, is an investment, however, international students are required to pay almost double, if not more, than UK students. This is around £15000-20000 on tuition alone. I am also not eligible for a loan, which makes university in the UK almost impossible to study at.
People like myself are desperate for acceptance. We find it difficult to feel accepted anywhere, simply because of what our documents say. When we finally decide that we want to study in the UK, a country we have called "home" on numerous occasions, we are welcomed with a slap in the face that echoes, "you're not from here" when we check the tuition fee information page on the university's website.
It is not our fault that we do not live in the UK. Most of us live overseas due to our parents' work demands, or for family reasons, since the other parent is from a different country, etc.
Our ineligibility for home fee status is unfair. I urge you to sign this petition so that university at "home" is accessible to all of us.
