Lauren Barber started this petition to UK Parliament

I’m wanting the UK Government to change the guidelines on furlough payment from unemployment  (voluntary resignation and redundancy) due to Covid-19 - For it to not be discretionary and for it to be made standard.

In such instances as I find myself, voluntary resignation, due to begin my new role on the 2nd of April, whilst also being on the payroll of the business as of the 28th February, furlough should not be at the discretion of the employer. If the UK parliament are happy to pay for people in such circumstances, it should be applied for to help those vulnerable to this.

Luckily for those made redundant, this also applies, however again at the employers discretion.

I would like to personally thank Martin Lewis on bringing this to the Treasury’s and HMRC’s attention and getting the ball rolling.

However, again with it being at the employers discretion, this is something we’re still falling through the loophole of.

Personally, I have never found myself out of employment. I have bills to pay, a daughter to support and a mortgage to keep up to date on payments. This has come at a huge shock to myself, as I’m sure many others also.

If this crisis wasn’t happening, it would be much easier for those made redundant to find another job. In turn, those whom had changed jobs, whether it was for circumstantial, financial or other reasons, they would be congratulated on their new adventure and began their new role as agreed.

Yet we find ourselves in the grey area for at no fault of our own, and respectively also the employers and of course the rest of the world.

Inevitably, this will lead to a lot of people losing their houses, cars, other assets, gaining much unwanted debt, leading to a downward spiral of debt and in turn the effect of the impact this will have on the individuals or households state of mind.
It was not long ago people were saying ‘BE KIND’

This will then create a domino effect of government benefits trying their upmost to support those left unfortunate, however the support IS THERE for employers to USE.

So may I please ask, that as many people as possible take a moment to sign this petition for those who are out of work, unable to obtain a job during the period and are not receiving an income to pay their mortgages, support their children and family and live during this pandemic.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope that we can make a change.
