Dominic Watters started this petition to UK Parliament and

I am a single dad, social work student, on welfare, free school meal vouchers, and living in a deprived council estate block with my amazing daughter, and I and many service users experience food poverty on a weekly basis.
So this is a petition for a judicial review to ask whether the government and local authorities are interpreting the law regarding their duty’s to promote wellbeing correctly, duties arising from the Children’s Act 2004 and the Care Act 2014.
Wellbeing should include the need to reduce the food insecurity, defined as ‘the living experience of food poverty’ (Watters 2021), experienced by children in care and the most disadvantaged families in society. Food is more than just what we eat, it can effect a persons ability to sustain relationships, be confident, engage in society, and physical and mental health.
Food security needs to begin to be viewed as a right for all, not only the financially secure. With all this talk of ‘levelling up’ as we begin to come out of the COVID crisis it is time for the government to acknowledge the current system is failing the poor and children in care, and clarifying the law regarding their duties will lead to improving the lives of the most vulnerable.
Your support could make a real change for families of all shapes, sizes, colours, and ages.
