I have a young child who suffers with food allergies and is unable to eat any dairy products.
To my shock and frustration I am finding restaurants and take aways don’t offer a selection of suitable food choices for people with food allergies. Most restaurants offer a vegetarian or even vegan options, but not dairy, glutton or nut free.
Food allergies are quite common but there is no guidance in place, to be inclusive, to act as an incentive to allow these people to enjoy a meal out, with family and friends. Something the majority of people take for granted. It is also an important part of social development that they are missing out on.
The thought that my young daughter may have to lose out on social events all her life because society is unwilling to recognise her dietary needs is horrifying! She may Develop mental health problems and feel different; isolated, depressed!
I ask that the government treat food allergies like any other hidden disability and see that they are able to use the restaurant facilities the rest of use take for granted by changing the law so that restaurants have to make food choices available where reasonably possible for people who suffer from food allergies.
I want my daughter growing up happy and included. I want her to be confident about going out with friends to a restaurant, knowing she won’t have to sit there hungry, with nothing on the menu she can eat. Not having to pretend she’s not hungry or having to explain to everyone repeatedly she can’t eat the food!
It’s not too much to ask to allow her a normal life!
Please support my petition not just for my daughter, but for all the children and adults out there having to face this exclusion every day.
