Equality for all teachers within the school admissions code 2014

Equality for all teachers within the school admissions code 2014
Currently the admissions code 2014 states that teachers’ children can attend the school the teacher works at. This means that infant teachers and primary teachers children can attend the school they work at from reception until year 6. This allows infant and primary schools to retain good teachers at their school and allow the parent to arrange easier childcare to be able to stay at the school they enjoy working at.
Unfortunately, this is not the same for junior school teachers whose children can only attend from year 3. This means that junior schools lose good teachers due to them having to leave the borough to arrange childcare in a different borough. It also means the teacher has to leave a school they love purely due to childcare.
This is a big issue especially in areas where teachers cannot afford to live and have to commute. Not only is it an issue personally for the teachers but also for the entire school community: the children, parents and governors.
I have been trying to get this discrimination heard by speaking to many people in admissions and within my teacher union but in order for this to change it has to be heard at UK Parliament.
I am sure that this discrimination was not intended and all that is required is a slight change to the wording so it says ‘feeder school’ this will allow all teachers the same entitlement for admissions and will ensure that schools retain their good staff and that teachers don’t have to leave a school they love because they have children.
Please sign my petition and share it with others if you believe in my cause. Many thanks.
