Paul D'Angelo started this petition to UK Parliament

The current laws surrounding e bikes in the UK are unfair to people who would like to go cycling but are physically impaired. The limiting of power to 250 watts and the requirement for initial power to be supplied by the pedals (pedelec) prevents those unable to do so physically from riding. I am unable to pedal much and 250 watts will not get me up any hills and I don't have sufficient ankle movement to overcome pedelec resistance.

The prevention by law of not allowing ebikes to have extra power available by an electronic switch is like having cars limited to 50 horse power because technically that is enough to reach the speed limit. I'm sure if a law like that was introduced there would be riots. As a responsible citizen although my car can do 120 mph if I am driving in a 20 zone I do 20.

When I was younger and fitter I was able to cycle quite easily at 20 mph (32 kph). All I want is for my ebike to be able to do the same without the need for me to pedal or break the law. I am not advocating speed increases to be used recklessly but just want to be able to do electrically what I used to be able to do myself.
