I've worked in the health and care industry for over 15years and i have experience in what our older generation needs are.  I've just found out that now less than half of our councils are offering meals on wheels for our elderly people, they are cancelling  them one by one and I would like it to stop now. I believe meals on wheels for our elderly people with or without dementia are key to the survival and independence to our older people. If our older generation aren't able to get out due to mobility or weather problems  atleast they will have a decent hot meal delivered to their home everyday.

I want the government to help fund this like they do with the military and food aid for other countries, we need to look at how we are treating our elderly people in our country as this is our future. I understand meals on wheels are at a loss and this is where the government need to step in and help out instead of filling their own pockets.

I also have been told that they may be able to offer frozen meals but the problem with this is:

1) most elderly people may not have a microwave

2) people with dementia may forget not to put silver in it therefore the microwave can catch fire

3)people with dementia may forget that frozen food needs to be defrosted first

4)people with dementia may eat thawed food and forget to cook it

5)elderly people may thaw food out but then leave it for days before cooking it, so it may become contaminated

6)people with dementia may forget to eat it

7) not forgetting meals and wheels is also a welfare check for older people

Please sign my petition to stop this happening the future of our elderly people, families and children depend on this!
