Sarah Edwards started this petition to UK Parliament and

People setting off fireworks privately can be a big problem for pet and livestock owners.

We've all heard of the fear, stress and damage that can be caused from a terrified animal being scared by them, sometimes even resulting in the loss of the animal as it bolts in fear. Animals have been known to escape houses and stables in a desperate attempt to run away from the danger, even if the owner has done their best to secure them safely.

As responsible animal owners most will do their best to prevent their animal from becoming scared in the first place, sometimes through desensitisation training or securing them in a "safe space" or even taking them away from the area if possible, sometimes as a last resort having to go down the medication route if nothing else works. Unfortunately this only works when we are aware of WHEN the fireworks are to be let off. How can we prepare properly when we are not?

The big organised events are advertised and so can be prepared for, but what do we do for private events? The ones held in back gardens at random times?

*********MY PROPOSAL IS THIS:*********

Make it law to advertise ALL fireworks events, be they large or small, organised or private. In towns or rural areas...but especially if you are within the vicinity of other homes.

Just like you are already obligated by law to display notices for planning permissions on your gates and doors when you are going to make changes to your home that might affect your neighbourhood, you should be obligated by law to display notice of an event that will also have a great effect on your neighbours.

For the safety of the animals in your area, as well as a courtesy to those who live around you, I hope that you will agree that this petition is a worthwhile cause.

Please sign and share so that we can make everyone's lives a little easier, safer and stress free.

We want everyone to be able to enjoy fireworks and so are not calling for a ban, but simply the courtesy of knowing exactly when they are going to be enjoyed so we can all take the necessary precautions to ensure our animals well being.
