The UK Government has decided to cut the funding for its Foreign Aid initiative affecting countries in Humanitarian Crisis. At the same time, they are finding the funds of £2.6 million to build a new unnecessary briefing room in Westminster. There is an estimated 20 million people dependent on the aid money provided in Yemen alone. A leaked document also suggests they will be cutting funding to Syria by 67%, Lebanon by 88%, Nigeria by 58%, Somalia by 60%, South Sudan by 59% and the Democratic Republic of Congo by 60%. This will lead to devastating real-life consequences, a death sentence for many. There have been over 100,000 deaths in Britain due to Covid-19 which these countries are also having to fight but without our brilliant NHS health care system. These countries were struggling before the pandemic and now have this added crisis on top. This is the time for the British Government to continue supporting them not stepping away. Britain claims to be a global leader but this action suggests the opposite as they will be failing to meet the UN's target of spending 0.7% of national income on foreign aid. I urge the Government to rethink this decision before they cost millions their lives.
