I would like to propose that a new law be created, stating that all new buildings (domestic and commercial) have, as a minimum, electricity generating solar panels plus where possible the addition of water heating solar panels compulsory fitted by the builders before any building is signed off.
Even on cloudy days, this would help the UK in its quest to go carbon neutral and would also assist the building owners/users in using less energy with the additional bonus of being able to sell the generated excess energy to the grid thus creating a small income.
This could be expanded into a second phase to include all existing business premises and housing association/council housing properties.
with a third phase of government assisted purchasing and fitting on all existing domestic premises throughout the UK.
In my view, this proposal would help the UK achieve carbon neutral and help consumers become creators. Any excess power in the grid could ultimately be sold abroad, thus creating an additional income for the country.
