Over 69% of secondary school children would vote if given the chance during a general election, and feel it is important to them as it acknowledges that they have an opinion too within politics and in life.
Many teenagers today have gone through having their voice suppressed in one way or another and by giving this freedom to them allows them to express their feelings in a professional and political setting. It also encourages the younger generation to be evolved in politics and the everyday running's of our country, this in turn prepares them later in life; producing more independent and proactive adults who value and are involved in our political system.
The voting age currently is personally a major flaw within our political system and the moment due to the fact that it is extremely undemocratic, this is because a healthy voting system composes of everybody having their say in parliamentary decisions and the party standing as the government. However currently the view of sixteen and seventeen year olds is being smothered as we do not get this chance to voice our opinion even through within the British value of 'democracy' and the human right of 'living in a democracy' by the UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights) we should be given this opportunity. Please help us change this as clearly the opinion of the younger generation is not being listened to.
