Litter is a huge problem in the UK. The children in Year 5 at Greenacres Primary School, Shrewsbury, are worried about the amount of litter being dropped in their local area and the effect this can have on the environment. They have discovered that the litter that has been dropped can cause harm to animals because the animals may eat or get stuck in the waste. Also, they were shocked at the cost of cleaning the litter up and the potential for disease to be passed around because of it. We decided that increasing the fine for littering would discourage people from littering and our petition would raise awareness about the dangers of littering to the environment.

Our class have picked up litter in our local area and discovered for themselves the amount of litter and the dangers of it. We have been doing this project as part of the LitFilmFest classroom project. During this project, we have written and sent a persuasive letters to the parents in our school to raise awareness of the local problem and interviewed our local MP to find out his views on the problem of littering. We made a campaign video which you can watch above and we hope that you can help us make this change happen by signing this petition and improving our environment for everyone.

Thank you,

Year 5 at Greenacres.
