Call on Jacob Rees Mogg’ to give his resignation over his totally unacceptable comments that Grenfell Survivors lacked “common sense”.

In a radio interview, Jacob Rees Mogg said:

“I think if either of us were in a fire, whatever the fire brigade said, we would leave the burning building. It just seems the common sense thing to do.”

These comments demonstrate an appalling lack of empathy and detachment from the Grenfell tragedy. Are you happy for people in positions of political power to make these kinds of statements? Add your name to this position to call on Boris Johnson to demand Jacob Rees Mogg’s resignation.

55 of the 72 people who died in the Grenfell Tragedy were told to remain in their homes. Jacob’s comments demonstrate a shocking level of disrespect to the memory of those people that put there trust in the London fire brigade to keep them safe.

To quote Justice4Grenfell:

“Rees-Mogg has a privileged background. What is his experience of living in social housing? How many tower blocks has he lived in?”

Are you happy for Jacob Rees Mogg to reduce a complex social and political issue to one of people simply lacking “common sense”?

Are you convinced by Jacob’s “apology” that “What (he) meant to say is that (he) would have also listened to the fire brigade’s advice to stay and wait at the time”, or do you think he is confusing what he “meant” to say with what he should have had the “common sense” not to say?

Send a message that these kinds of attitudes have no place in UK politics. Sign this petition to call on Jacob to do the right thing and step down today.
