'British Icon' The New Blue Brexit Passport to be manufactured by French-Dutch company

Like it or loathe it the UK is coming out of the EU. I was shocked having just heard on the news that the new original 'blue' UK passport is to manufactured in France by a French-Dutch firm Gemalto. The company that currently makes our passports since 2009 is De La Rue in the UK.

Under EU procurement rules, the Home Office had been required to throw open the bidding process to European firms. This seems absolute madness, disgraceful & perverse that we are abiding by this when we are  shortly about to leave & handing over work to a country in the EU. This contract if obtained will, I believe, not for just a couple years but quite a lengthy period.

Here are a couple of quotes from the media:

A spokeswoman for the Home Office said: "The chosen company demonstrated that they will be best able to meet the needs of our passport service with a high quality and secure product at the best value for money for our customers and the taxpayer."

The Culture Secretary, Matthew Hancock, told the BBC that EU procurement rules were "very clear" but might change after Brexit.

"As it happens, one of the advantages of leaving the European Union is that we'll be able to have more control over our own procurement rules," he said.

I ask you to sign this petition to keep our passport production within the UK with De La Rue to protect careers with in the De La Rue company based in UK.
