Why this petition matters

Started by Chesney Molyneaux

We need to end the lack of education regarding the systemic racism and racial hierarchies all around the world. People need to know from an early age the issues in our society and where they stem from. We need to learn about the parts of history that are painful and we would rather forget. This is important for us to move forward into a brighter future, there needs to be a long-running narrative on the issues that people of colour have to face. It should not just be a trending topic that eventually fizzles out with the world returning to the status quo. We need to keep this conversation going.

It is not an easy topic and it can be uncomfortable but we need it to be a topic we can talk about freely without fear or judgement and offence. As well as the colonialism and slave trade, black history, in general, should be part of the mainstream curriculum. Having a voice and having this inclusivity could be beneficial in the classroom for young people all over the country. If young minority groups grow up learning about these things it could show them they matter and could have a positive impact on our society. If non-minority groups grow up learning about these things it could show them how that their silence to racial inequalities infers their compliance to it.

I encourage you to accept the responsibility to educate yourselves on black history and contact your MP and express the need for it to be taught as part of the school curriculum so that people can learn in a safe and verifiable environment. To this end, conversations surrounding black and British colonial history can be carried out more effectively. Please sign the petition below and listen to the excellent podcast:
