Better safeguarding and health visits for pre-school age children.
The sad reports in the media have highlighted the lack of safeguarding for pre-school children. There are very few health visits from birth to primary school for children who are not under the care of Social Services. These should be increased to yearly at least and doctors must see children in person. The childs health and safety must come first. Toddlers should be weighed as regularly as babies. We have to do more to highlight the support available for parents who are struggling in order to protect the little ones. We need to increase the literature and discussion. We have to make services more diverse and accessible (including financially). We must increase the number of groups and provide more funding for clinics and over-subscribed children centres. There must be more training for those that run baby and toddler groups (especially the fun ones) so that they can have the confidence to notice and speak out when something is wrong. We have to take action. I am no expert and have nothing but admiration for our social workers, doctors, nurses and teachers but this makes my heart heavy. There must be more we can do to stop this situation occurring repeatedly. Surely.
