I would like the UK government to do something about the fact that many Autistic children are struggling in mainstream education and parents and their children are being failed by Education increasing the pressure on mental health services and Social Services.

As a parent I have had to fight tooth and nail for my Autistic daughter. Initially, just to have her assessed so she could have better access to education and Reasonable Adjustments made. However, even following her diagnosis, 2.5 years ago, the fight for her has continued with Education. Attending a school she has struggled to access for many reasons and will not achieve her full potential because the lack of adjustment means she cannot properly learn as well as she is able to, in fact you might say, she is being actively prevented from learning due to insufficient appropriate adjustment for her needs. I've had a year-long fight with both School and the Local Authority for an EHCP (still on-going) and she, herself, knows that she wants to be in a school where teachers understand Autism and she isn't bullied for being 'weird' or 'a loner' purely because she is a bit 'different'.

Its time for the UK government to mandate better, more appropriate provision for Autistic children. With significantly smaller classes and a more suitable sensory environment. These children need specialist teaching staff who are highly skilled in teaching Autistic children and will help them not just with academics but with personal and social skill support too.

Its time for the Government to consult with Actually Autistic adults too who have been through education and can advocate for the children of the Autistic Community.
